Autumn or fall? Rubbish or garbage? Centre or center? Colour or color? Even though British and American English is the same language there are quite a few differences. Some words are spelled different, some words are pronounced different and some things have different names. Most students, who learn English as a second language, use a mixture between British and American English. That is, for the most part, allowed. But you still need to know the difference.
